Joining Forces on Critical Voices

Den danske UNESCO-nationalkommission

Debat - Offentlighed, dialog og diskussion - Uddannelse og forskning

Freedom of speech is a fundamental pillar for our democracies, and for those in the forefront such as journalists, artists, and scientists, it is crucial for all citizens that they can work freely without harassment. Culture; News and Information; Scientific research must be created, developed, and delivered independently. Thus, UNESCO Denmark has initiated a way forward for the three professions to join forces creating common goals for how to defend free speech, access to information, and to avoid interference from the authorities. We will present ideas such as a manual for cultural freedom, a national action plan for safety of journalists and first attempt to monitor violation against academic freedom to create new reaching-out engagements between the three professions and the citizens.
