War in Ukraine: from breadbasket to minefield

FN Byen

Debat - Fødevarer og madkultur - Andet

Mine clearance is a demanding and time-consuming task burdened with extreme danger. However, it is an essential prerequisite for civilians to safely return, cultivate their land, and rebuild without the looming threat of landmines At this joint UNOPS and WFP event, we will walk you through how mines are cleared together with mine clearing experts who will bring equipment that will detect hidden treasures. Additionally, you will have the chance to try mine clearing equipment and even wear a bomb suit. In Ukraine, the war has led to a humanitarian crisis and economic turmoil, with explosive ordinance notably affecting agriculture and infrastructure. In a panel with UNOPS, WFP, the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Nordic Ukraine Invest, Mayor of Shevchenkiv District in Mykolaiv Region, and Mayor of Mykolaiv City, we will explore what is required to rebuild critical infrastructure and transform minefields into productive agricultural areas in Ukraine.
