Africa – the geopolitical battlefield
Dansk Institut for Partier og Demokrati (DIPD)
Debat - EU og udenrigspolitik
Africa is turning into a geopolitical battleground. For two decades, China has invested heavily in African infrastructure in an attempt to seize control of the continent’s vast natural resources, while the US has gradually withdrawn its involvement. At the same time, Russia has emerged as a new dangerous player on the continent, playing an active role in destabilising the West African region and nurturing antagonism towards the old colonial powers. Recognising the shifting dynamics on the African continent, the Danish government has initiated the development of a strategic paradigm for Denmark’s relationship with Africa, but is Denmark still an attractive partner for our African neighbours?
